Email QR Code

Create a pre-filled email scan

Frequently Asked Questions

How does an Email QR Code work?

When scanned, it opens the user's default email app (like Gmail or Outlook) with the recipient's address, subject, and body already filled out.

Can I use it for newsletter signups?

Yes. You can set the subject as 'Subscribe' so when someone scans it, they just hit 'Send' to join your list.

Does it work with any email app?

Yes. It uses the standard `mailto:` protocol which is supported by iOS Mail, Android Gmail, and Desktop clients.

Can I pre-fill multiple recipients?

Standard QR email format typically supports one primary recipient. For multiple, you might need a custom link, but a single email is more reliable for scanning.

Is the email address visible to the scanner?

Yes. Before the email app opens, most phones will show a preview of the action, including the `mailto:` address.

Can I track how many people scanned my Email QR?

Since these are static QRs, tracking is only possible if you use a 'trackable' alias or service. The scan itself is private and local.

Is there a character limit for the email body?

Yes. To keep the QR code scannable, try to keep the email body under 200 characters. Long text makes the QR pattern too dense.

Can I add attachments to the Email QR?

No. The `mailto:` standard doesn't support file attachments. You should link to a hosted file in the email body instead.

Why does my scan just show text instead of opening Mail?

Ensure you have an email app installed and set as 'default'. Some very old scanners might only show the raw `mailto:` text string.

Is it safe from spam bots?

Bots that scrape websites won't find the email easily, but if you print it publicly, anyone who scans it will have your email address.
